Product Description

Microtracers F have many uses in assuring the quality of feed premixes and final feeds. These include:

  • Coding feeds by species to allow testing for cross-contamination between such feeds.
  • Coding vitamin or mineral premixes to permit the feed manufacturer to detect feed manufacturing errors.
  • Coding feed products and premixes and their presence in final feeds as proprietary by use of “exclusive” Microtracers.
  • Validating mixing and cross-contamination control procedure for premixes and final feeds.

Microtracers F are magnetically retrievable from feeds via a Mason Jar Test Kit (qualitative) or Rotary Detector (qualitative or quantitative).

Product Description

Microtracesr FS are stainless steel particles colored with FD&C water soluble dyes or the water insoluble “lake” form of such dyes.

They are similar to Microtracer F except they may be stable in feed products or premixes 5 years or longer, a requirement when they are formulated in animal health feed products such as coccidiostats and therapeutic animal drugs.

Microtracers FS are used primarily to code drugs so they can be quantified in premixes and final feeds.

Microtracers FS are magnetically retrievable from feeds via a Mason Jar Test (qualitative), Rotary Detector (qualitative or quantitative), or a magnetic probe (quantitative).

Product Description

Microtracers-RF are iron powder colored with water soluble FD&C colors, designed to be used in feeds or premixes.

Microtracers-RF may be assayed qualitatively using a Rotary Detector or the Mason Jar Technique in less than one minute in premixes and mash feds and in two minutes in pellets ground to mash.

For qualitative tests, the tracer will yield a ring of color on a filter paper, indicating the presence or absence of the product it is coding.

Microtracers-RF can also be determined quantitatively by eluting the dye from the tracer, reading its absorbance at a specific wavelength, and comparing it to a set of standard curves.

Product Description

Microtracer Si and Microtracers G tracers consist of silica gel and graphite particles respectively, coated with food grade dyes.

They differ from Microtracer F, FS, and RF in that they are not magnetically retrievable, and instead are recovered via sedimentation.

Product Description

Microgrits are corn cob grits colored with FD&C food dyes. They are visually identifiable in mash and pelleted feeds.

Microgrits were originally developed for use in research feeding trials to reduce the likelihood of making errors and for determination if errors were made by checking the feces of trial animals or poultry.

They are also used to code feed products, premixes or final feeds as proprietary.

Some advantages of Microgrits:

  • Microgrits can be visually identified when formulated in animal or poultry feeds at as little as 1 to 2 lbs per ton.
  • Microgrits possess minimal nutritional value and consequently will not generally bias research diet formulation.
  • Microgrits can be isolated as the coarse fraction of feed sifted through a 20 mesh USA Standard screen. They then can be counted, yielding data as to mix completeness.
  • Microgrits are identifiable in animal/poultry feces as further confirmation research feeds are properly formulated and consumed.

Product Description

Selenium is an essential nutrient at 0.1 parts per million for almost all livestock species. Many studies have indicated the rate of growth and health of animals and poultry is improved when selenium is added to feeds at 0.3 parts per million.

However, selenium can be toxic at high levels, with an LD50 (lethal dose for 50% of test animals) of about 7 parts per million (7 grams per metric tonne).

Microtracers manufactures a number of selenium products, using sand and iron as carriers instead of coarse limestone.

Our selenium products are also treated with hydrogenated soybean oil to reduce dustiness.

  • Dispersion – Microtracers selenium products disperse well in feed premixes and final feeds
  • Less dusty – 90% less dusty than limestone-based selenium sources, a waste-disposal worker safety issue
  • Flows well – Products are pre-sifted so they flow well in materials handling equipment, a major problem as selenium compounds are hygroscopic and may accumulate in premix conveying equipment and then release into premixes at toxic levels

Product Description

SECURtracers are designed to meet US FDA requirements for PCIDs (Physical-Chemical Identifiers) for use in coding solid dosage form drug products as authentic. This permits identification of counterfeit products.

SECURtracers are food/pharma-grade particles, 100-200 microns in size, and contain up to 12 characters per particle.

SECURtracers are tested “on the spot” using simple, inexpensive apparatus requiring minimum skills.

The presence of SECURtracers can easily be detected via use of a UV blacklight. Once identified, they can be isolated magnetically and viewed under an inexpensive microscope for confirmation of authenticity.

SECURtracers allows verification of a pharmaceutical drug product ‘on-the-spot’ at the dose level, even when separated from its original packaging. They also allow for authentication of product labeling.
