PROJECT “CHLORINE-FREE ELECTROCHEMICAL AND PHOTOCHEMICAL STERILIZATION OF CONTAMINATED WATER”
Dr.
Sylvan Eisenberg, founder of Micro Tracers, Inc., came to the idea of
“Methods and means for the controlled chlorination of swimming pool
water" in 1949. Dr. Eisenberg used graphite
electrodes in a swimming pool containing ambient sodium chloride. He
passed a low level direct current between these electrodes and killed
the algae and bacteria in the pool. Many years later, chemists at
Micro-Tracers, Inc. have continued this study with the objective of
developing a commercial method of disinfection of water using
electrochemical generation of the disinfectant.
Most recent results of this investigation have been published recently in Russian Journal of Electrochemistry, 2010, v. 46 (3), 306-311 .
